A Tradition of Giving

Since 1951, Hitchcock Healthcare has provided physical rehabilitation and therapy services to meet the needs of the children and adults living in Aiken County.  As the needs of our community have changed, Hitchcock continues a caring  mission of supportive and restorative   services for people of all ages.

Early on, the Aiken County Society for  Crippled Children was formed as an Easter Seals affiliate.  The first therapy services were provided in the Parsonage of St. John’s Methodist Church in 1954. The same year Hitchcock was accepted as a United Fund, now United Way agency.  Our first facility on Richland Avenue was completed and dedicated in 1964. This was the vision of Board volunteers and a committed Aiken Community, as well as a generous gift from the Hitchcock Foundation. In 1970 the Society was renamed Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center. Hitchcock volunteers inspired to help overcome limitations for families and   individuals constructed a state of the art facility which opened in 1992 at our current location at 690 Medical Park Drive. It is due to our many generous  supporters and committed staff that  Hitchcock Healthcare owes its beginning and sustainability.

In order to preserve and continue an essential part of Hitchcock Healthcare’s historical mission, we continue to depend on the generous support of our community.  Annually, Hitchcock is committed to providing physical, occupational and speech therapy services to children and adults with special needs who reside in Aiken and surrounding areas. Many of these patients have limited financial resources. The generosity of numerous individuals, businesses  as well as the United Way of Aiken County enable us to continue our charitable mission.

Your Gift

Your gift is used to support therapy services for children and adults with limited resources.  This includes a large percentage of our children with special needs who are covered by SC Medicaid.  In our State, Medicaid reimburses less than a half of our cost of delivering therapy services to children.  SC  Medicaid does not reimburse for any therapy services for adults. Yet Aiken County ranks eighth in South Carolina in the number of Medicaid eligible citizens. Financial contributions help us serve outpatients who are underinsured or have no insurance.

Fundraising
Fundraising for Hitchcock Healthcare depends on annual fundraising events and programs in order to successfully meet the Center’s mission. Since, 2006 Hitchcock Healthcare's fundraising efforts have focused on
directly benefit the children who receive therapy services in the Children’s Therapy Services program at Hitchcock Healthcare. This program struggles substantially due to poor reimbursements. Based on SC medicaid standards our facility is only reimbursed less than 40% of our cost to provide therapy services to our children. With our original mission of providing therapy to children in mind, we help to offset the
cost of this with our other programs of service, however we need the help of our donors to continue our mission of providing service to our children. Hitchcock Healthcare is the only comprehensive outpatient provider of children's therapy services in Aiken County. Without the help of our community children with special needs in Aiken and surrounding counties would be forced to travel several times a week to Augusta and the Columbia area for their rehabilitative services.  Last year our deficit for the Children's Therapy Services program was $282,794.18.
The United Way of Aiken County provides a generous donation to the center to offset the loss. Yet as a non-profit, community-owned organization, Hitchcock is obligated to continually seek other funding sources to help compensate for this loss. Through your participation in our major fundraising events and annual giving program, we are able to provide healthcare and wellness services across the life span to the citizens of our community. Opportunities to support our mission are as follows:

Hitchcock Auction
This year Hitchcock will celebrate our 22nd annual Auction and Dinner Party at the Hitchcock Healthcare Center. The event provides a memorable evening of cocktails, dinner, and a silent and live auction. As our longest established fundraising event, Hitchcock depends on the generous and continuous support of numerous individuals and our local business community.

Hitchcock Fall Classic Golf  Tournament
The Hitchcock Fall Classic has become a favorite golf fundraiser for our Hitchcock supporters and employees. Golfers enjoy a captain’s choice tournament played at one of Aiken’s favorite golf clubs, Houndslake Country Club. Opportunities to financially support the event include team entry, corporate sponsorship, awards dinner sponsorship and hole sponsorship.

Summer Dinner and Dance
Hitchcock’s newest fundraising event is developing into one of Aiken’s premier events. Houndslake Country Club hosts this end of the summer bash with a decadent menu and a night filled with dancing. Opportunities to financially support the event include individual table reservations and corporate sponsorship.
